What kind of books are good for yr olds?

Question

What kind of books are good for yr olds?
My th grade cousin is sooo board reading the same books over amp over again! I wanted to help her out find new books. Do u know any that u would like to share? THANKS SO MUCH!

Answer

My daughter, who has read every popular childrens book, said that the Redwall series was the best collection of books she ever read, even trumping the Chronicles of Narnia which she had loved for years. My son wouldnt stop reading and rereading those Redwall books. They are the reason his reading comprehension score really zoomed upward.brbrArtemis Fowl? Those are beloved.brbrCaroline Duncan books are a little scary, nothing like R.L. Stine, but you would have to read one and judge the suitability for your cousin.brbrEragon and its sequel is very popular right now.brbrHas she read The Giver and Finding Blue its sequel.brbrElla, Enchanted is just the best.brbrIm not so big on Harry Potter, but my son did read them all.brbrWhats wrong with Nancy Drew mysteries, although I suppose your cousin is past the age where they would attract. Those books are wonderful vocabulary boosters, you know.brbrMy daughter is currently into Tamara Pierce novels fantasy. You will have to read one to see.brbrI would steer clear of Robin McKinley books the Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown for a while. Gets a little adult in places.brbrShe could read An Old Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott. Its a really cute story despite its age.brbrHas she read the horse stories by Wm Farley? brbrGet a list of classics from the librarian. I keep finding Watership Down in my year old daughters bedroom, even though she has already read it several times.brbrGet her a subscription to Readers Digest. Oh, and Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul, stuff like that.brbrThe Sisterhood of the Traveling PantsI laughed so hard I practically couldnt stop. But I think they are a little mature for your cousin still. In the rd book there is a chapter on someones mom giving birth. Not sure you want your cousin reading that.
